APCO Canada 2020 Conference & Tradeshow Update
Dear APCO Canada members, sponsors, exhibitors & partners,
I write to you today on behalf of the APCO Canada Board of Directors to firstly thank you for your continued support for our National Association.
My second message to you is to announce that we have made the exceedingly difficult decision to cancel the 2020 APCO Canada National Conference and Tradeshow in Toronto.
Since I wrote to you a few months ago announcing that we were moving forward with the conference, several significant developments have occurred, which culminated in a decision by the Board of Directors, and our event Management Company, that we cancel the conference.
As you may be aware, the Province of Ontario has moved into Phase 3 of their COVID response plan. With this move, gatherings of 50 people indoors and 100 outdoors are permitted with social distancing in place. Unfortunately, the easing of these restrictions does not include the hosting of either tradeshows and/ore conferences.
Realizing that the COVID pandemic continues to be an evolving crisis, there is always a possibility that should COVID cases increase in the greater Toronto Area (GTA), the Provincial Government may again move to a higher restriction on public gatherings.
With these new developments occurring and the uncertainty of the event industry, we decided that the prudent thing to do, to the disappointment of many, is to cancel our event.
For those of you who have already registered to attend the event, we will soon be issuing you a full refund of your registration fees.
We are reviewing our current by-law requirements regarding our Annual General Meeting and the current Board of Directors positions. As you all realize, we are in both unprecedented and uncharted times as an Association.
Please check the APCO Canada 2020 Conference and tradeshow website for additional information regarding the cancellation and our planned 2021 event in Niagara Falls.
Jennifer Moreton, President - APCO Canada
